Day 1 Langholt – Kópareykir
Ca. 18 km
We will start our ride from Langholt towards the glacier River Hvítá.Our route will take us up through the valley called Flóka valley and from there we will ride over a small mountain over the Reykholts valley.At Reykholt the great writer Snorri Sturluson, author of many of the Icelandic Sagas lived.We will leave our horses at Kópareykir and head back to Skorradalur for a great dinner and the hot tub.
Day 2. Kópareykir – Kalmanstunga
ca. 30 km
From Kópareykir we will ride towards the Glaciers. We will follow the river in Reykholtsdalur up towards the farm Giljar. From there we will ride over a small mountain towards the beautiful area of Húsafell. We will ride through the ” forest ” of Húsafell towards the farm Kalmanstuna, which is very close to the glaciers that we will get a better view of the day after. The horses will spend the night at Kalmanstunga while we will head back for the night.
Day 3. The Strútur
ca. 22 km
Day 4 will be a relaxing day.We will only be riding one horse on that day as we will ride around the mountain Strútur.The rest of the herd will get the day off.As mentioned earlier, this is many peoples favorite route.The view on that day will include at least three glaciers, Langjökull, Eiriksjokull and Geitalandsjökull.
Day 4. Kalmanstunga – Brunnar
ca. 42 km
From Kalmanstunga we will start our ride towards Kaldidalur or the Cold valley.The name comes from the fact that we will be riding between the glaciers OK and Langjökull.We will also be passing the glacier Þorisjökull.On a good day the view towards the glaciers can be really fascinating and there have been many songs and poems written about this route.We will be leaving the horses at Brunnar, while we will head back home for the night.
Day 5. Brunnar – Litla Drageyri
ca. 34 km
Today we will be riding down towards Skorradalur again. Even though the Cold valley is a very nice route, it will be good to come back to the green valley of Skorradalur. The horses know that they are heading home and the ride back along the lake will be great. It will be good to come back home to the farm Litla Drageyri.
